The UNESCO's inscription of the Chinese Spring Festival on its Intangible Cultural Heritage list has won wide applause.

An official from Barcelona, Spain recently noted that Spring Festival has been welcomed positively across the city as the festivity is a positive example of cultural exchange.

"The Chinese New Year is a festivity that has been welcomed very positively by all citizens and all communities and it represents a very positive example of cultural exchange because this is where we really learn about the different cultures that coexist in the city.
This year, in 2025, we celebrate another Chinese New Year, specifically the Year of the Snake. It's a festivity that is already part of the city of Barcelona, it's part of the city's DNA, and it's hard to imagine Barcelona without this celebration of the Chinese New Year
We are strengthening ties with China and the Chinese community because the people of Chinese origin who live in Barcelona not only contribute economically and socially but also culturally, and this festivity is an example of this."
