Irlam, United Kingdom - January 24, 2025 Status red wind warnings are in effect across Ireland after Storm Éowyn made landfall overnight. The entire island is now under a Status Red wind alert, after Co Donegal and Northern Ireland came under the warning at 7am. Most counties will remain under a Status Orange wind warning when Red warnings lift throughout the day. ESB are reporting that around 715,000 homes and businesses are without power across the country, while many roads are blocked due to fallen trees and debris. Met Éireann has advised that people need to “shelter in place” for the extent of the Status Red wind warning. The national forecaster had warned of a “danger to life” due to the high winds, which gale to storm force winds expected to bring severe, damaging and extremely destructive gusts. Schools and creches are set to close and people have been urged to work from home, with public transport services cancelled for the duration of the Status Red warning. [Credit: X/kevirlam]
