Jenin, West Bank - January 23, 2025 Israel's major military operation in the occupied West Bank entered its third day Thursday, forcing hundreds of residents in the city of Jenin, around 120 kilometers north of Gaza, to flee their homes. With a ceasefire in effect in Gaza, Israel has intensified military actions in the West Bank, launching "Operation Iron Wall" - a series of raids in Jenin. At least 12 Palestinian residents were killed and nearly 40 others injured during the ongoing onslaught on Jenin and its refugee camp, amidst massive destruction to infrastructure and local proprieties. The Iron Wall operation began with the evacuation of entire neighborhoods in the Jenin camp, home to more than 11,000 refugees crammed into less than half a square kilometer. The densely populated camp is one of 19 Palestinian refugee camps in the West Bank. Camp residents have been without water, electricity, communication networks and the Internet. As in Gaza, many of those in harm's way are women and children. "All night long, there were shelling and bombing, our homes are full of scared children. We were terrified beyond belief. They are doing to us exactly the same thing they did in Gaza, with displacement, exiling, and threats to blow up the camp. The army sent threatening messages to people to evacuate the camp. Since yesterday, our four-floor building which houses four families, we all refused to leave our homes. And today they still sent us threats, if we don't leave they will bomb the camp," said Qahira Alsaedi, a displaced person from Jenin. Israeli forces surrounded the only government hospital in Jenin - reportedly blocking hospital entrances with sandbags, detaining more than 200 people in the hospital yard, and preventing ambulances from answering emergency calls. Murad Khamayssa is an ambulance driver. He confirmed that the raid at the hospital is still underway. He says ambulance crews cannot retrieve the camp's injured without the risk of being shot by the Israeli army. But Israeli forces are now permitting evacuations. "The siege is still ongoing on the Jenin camp, the city of Jenin and on the hospitals. Only now the military allow people to evacuate the camp, and they created a specific route for people and for the ambulances (to evacuate the camp)," said Murad Khamayssa, a rescuer in the Palestinian Red Crescent. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz pledged that the Israeli army would continue what he calls counter-terrorism raids in the Jenin camp. Other West Bank cities have also been targets in "Operation Iron Wall." The governments of Jordan and Iraq have condemned the raids. SHOTLIST: Jenin, West Bank - Jan 23, 2025 1.
