India: Maha Kumbh sky turns canvas as 2,500 drones depict Indian mythology
Prayagraj, India - January 24, 2025 A stunning drone show at the Maha Kumbh brought Indian mythology, history, and traditions to life using 2,500 indigenously manufactured drones. The incident took place in Sector 7 of the Mahakumbh, situated in the Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh, northern India on January 24. The visuals captured the synchronized takeoff of drones, creating awe-inspiring displays. These included tributes to Uttar Pradesh Diwas, Uttar Pradesh tourism, and the Government of Uttar Pradesh, as well as spiritual imagery like a conch, deities drinking from the Amrit Kalash, and a divine depiction of Samudra Manthan. According to reports, a rehearsal for the drone show took place on Thursday evening (January 23). The drones ascended gracefully, synchronizing flawlessly to create mesmerizing shapes and visuals. These breathtaking displays portrayed aspects of Indian culture, spirituality, and the profound significance of the Mahakumbh. Modern technology was skillfully utilized to bring to life the rich heritage of the Sanatan tradition. The centrepiece of this grand drone exhibition is the spiritual narrative of the 'Make in India Maha Kumbh,' which presents Indian mythology and traditions uniquely and compellingly. A total of 2,500 indigenously manufactured drones will take part in the event, which will run over three days, each day featuring a distinct theme. The drones will illuminate the skies above Sangam Bank, illustrating scenes such as Samudra Manthan and the story of the Amrit Kalash, showcasing the epic struggle between gods and demons. The tale of the Kumbh Kalash's origins and its cultural importance will also be depicted in an engaging format. On January 24, the state will celebrate Uttar Pradesh Diwas with an emphasis on 'Virasat' (heritage) and 'Vikas' (development). The following day, January 25, will commemorate National Tourism Day, while Republic Day on January 26 will focus on the Constitution and its significance. This event marks the first time a drone show of such magnitude has been organized during the Kumbh Mela. The sky became a dazzling canvas as drones elegantly formed the Maha Kumbh logo alongside the emblem of the Uttar Pradesh government. Other visuals included a sadhu blowing a conch and a sanyasi meditating in the sacred waters of Sangam, adding a spiritual dimension to the display. A particularly striking moment was the depiction of the Indian tricolor unfolding majestically over Vidhan Sabha Bhawan, which filled spectators with patriotism and pride. This innovative drone display left an indelible impression, celebrating both the cultural and spiritual essence of the Kumbh Mela. In addition to the drone visuals, Uttar Pradesh Day was celebrated with a cultural tableau, further enhancing the spectacle. Anticipating a massive gathering of over 10 crore devotees for the Mauni Amavasya Amrit Snan on January 29, the Uttar Pradesh government has implemented comprehensive measures for efficient traffic and crowd management. During the rehearsal on Thursday, a tourism official assured that strict security protocols were in place to ensure the event proceeded smoothly. Local administration, police, and tourism authorities worked collaboratively to inspect security arrangements and review technical setups, ensuring seamless coordination. Adding to the spiritual harmony of the Mahakumbh, seers from Russia and Ukraine convened on Thursday morning at Prayagraj to perform 'kirtan' and prayers. Chanting devotional hymns and participating in rituals, demonstrated the Mahakumbh’s role as a global platform for cultural exchange and the promotion of universal values. Mahant Sanat Kumar expressed, "We conducted the Guru Parampara Puja of Lord Dattatreya, followed by Aarti and Bhajans in honour of Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha. Guests also joined in, singing devotional songs dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Rama. This symbolizes unity and highlights how Indian and Western cultures can collaborate. It conveys the message that peaceful coexistence and cooperation are the essence of Sanatan Dharma." The show, organized by the Tourism Department and executed by Pushpak Gupta's company from Meerut, included a 12-minute reenactment of the Samudra Manthan. This segment depicted gods and demons churning the ocean together, leading to the emergence of 14 treasures, one after another. The drones also portrayed Lord Shiva consuming the poison and Lord Vishnu distributing nectar to the gods. The visual journey culminated in illustrating how drops of nectar fell to Earth, symbolizing the origin of the Maha Kumbh and the Kumbh Mela. * Non Exclusive Video rights*
