SOUNDBITE 1 (English): FELIX, Traveller from the UK
"Hi guys, I'm Felix from the UK. Today I'm going to take you to visit two of Fuzhou's most famous scenic spots, Gushan and Guling. Let's go.
This morning was my first time experimenting with making rubbings of the inscriptions on the rocks down at Gushan. I was so grateful for the master to show me how to make these traditional copies, and it was a great fun experience.
Look. I've picked up this lovely postcard here at the post office. I think I'm going to write it to one of my good friends back home. I'll tell him if he has the opportunity, he's got to come to Fuzhou Guling to look around."
Guling, also known as Kuliang, was a popular summer retreat for foreigners who lived harmoniously with local Chinese residents from the 1880s onwards.
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): FELIX, Traveller from the UK
"To be honest, when I see this style of architecture, I think the western influence is very visible, especially these lovely wooden shutters and the sconces.
Today for lunch we tried a new vegetable for me called 'Hai Cai.' The boss of the restaurant said that because westerners here used to say 'Hi' to each other, they started calling it Hai Cai, the 'Hi' vegetable.
This trip to Gushan and Guling made me feel deeply, a new understanding of the natural beauty and cultural depth of Fuzhou. From the tranquility of the cliff inscriptions to the warmth of the ancient house in Guling, every place made me want to linger and made me feel the friendship and warmth that spans over 100 years.
Fuzhou really is a city worth taking your time to visit and savoring each moment. I hope that sharing my experience can make you also feel a little bit of its beauty, and maybe one day you will set foot on this magical land to explore its infinite charm for yourself."
