A munitions factory explosion left at least eight dead in India.

The devastating blast occurred on Friday morning, January 24, in Jahawar Nagar, Bhandara district, Maharashtra, causing the roof of the building to collapse.

Authorities reported that the explosion happened around 10:45 am and was heard up to three miles, impacting nearby villages.

Local media has reported that the factory specialises in the manufacturing of propellants and explosives.

Sanjay Kolte, the collector of Bhandara, confirmed that twelve people were inside the factory when the explosion occurred.

Emergency responders, including firefighters and ambulances, were quickly dispatched to the scene.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his condolences over the tragic incident.

He said: 'Medical teams have been mobilized to provide necessary assistance to those affected by the explosion. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.'

Several others were injured in the blast, and the cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
