Gaza Strip: Palestinian displaced person: "I return to northern Gaza to kiss its land"
Gaza Strip - January 25, 2025 Hundreds of Gazans, many of them carrying the same tarpaulin and ropes they have used as shelter in southern Gaza during the war with Israel, are waiting in Nuseirat (center) for the moment when the Israeli army allows them to cross the Netzarim Corridor and return to the north of the Gaza Strip. Camera: Stringer. Footage of statements in Arabic from several Gazan citizens waiting in Nuseirat, on the Salah al-Din road, which connects the north and south of the Gaza Strip, to begin their return to the northern enclave. Translations: Ahmed Yocub Ayiash, 36 years old: "I return to Gaza with my family to kiss its land and hopefully, we will be victorious. I am now on Salah al-Din road in my car with my family, we are five people. We have been displaced 20 times. We have been in Rafah, Khan Younis, Westa Zuaida, etc. We have almost been in all the areas of this war. Today, we slept in the car until the morning. My daughters like to play and be creative, doing things to pass the time during the war. During the war, we were the target of a bombing that killed my wife and my son. My daughters and I were rescued from the rubble. Now, I am remarried and return to Gaza to start a new life." Gazan citizen: "We are returning to northern Gaza, we want to celebrate it. I have been displaced and now I am in Rafah. We have been here since 2 PM and still haven't received a response. We don't understand anything, we have children and elderly people. Despite the wait, we are happy because we want to return to our homes, land, and villages. We have moved from Rafah to Khan Younis until we arrived here. I have an injured son. We want the roads to be opened. We want to go home." Masuod Yendia, 22 years old: "We have been suffering for a long time. Since the day we heard about the ceasefire and the return of the displaced, we have been sleeping on the roads, we have no clothes or blankets, we have nothing. We just want to go back to the north, to our homes and land to search for our missing relatives. Hopefully, we can rebuild Gaza again. We return or we die here, there is no other option, one of the two options. We will wait here one or two weeks, like the rest of the people. We all return or we all stay. My brother died and I have many relatives missing. In the south, they don't attend to us, so we want to return to the north." [Restrictions: Spain, Latin America, or the U.S. Hispanic market]
