Police bust counterfeit ink factory producing hazardous chemicals
A fake printer ink seller was arrested for allegedly selling products with hazardous chemicals in Thailand.
Aksiya, 52, is said to have sold fake ink cartridges through an online shop.
Police raided her home that doubled as a storage area for the counterfeit products in Bangkok, on January 20. They arrested her and seized 57,644 items as evidence.
Authorities said the arrest came following complaints that the ink Aksiya sold had a strong chemical smell.
Police consulted with the printer ink company and learned that Aksiya had been using their brand without authority. The fake products caused an estimated 10 million baht (240,000 GBP) in damages.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Chaipipat Panthuchart of the Economic Crime Suppression Division said: 'From the inspection, it was found that the products were substandard, and did not follow regulations regarding the chemical content in the ink. The suspect was also found to have forged the trademarks of the printer ink company. Therefore, police have seized the products and arrested the owner.'
Aksiya was handed over to the Technology Crime Suppression Division 1 for further legal action.
She faces charges of selling counterfeit goods and using trademarks without permission to deceive others.
