Tourist wakes up in Thai hospital and launches frenzied attack on nurses
This is the disturbing moment a tourist woke up in a hospital and attacked the nurses in Thailand.
The holidaymaker, not yet identified by police, was rushed to the Sirindhorn Hospital in Bangkok after he was found unconscious in an alley, on January 22. He was taken to the emergency ward, where he woke up and suddenly went berserk on the staff.
Shocking CCTV footage shows the crazed man standing up from his hospital bed before launching a frenzied attack on the nurses, who were tending to several elderly patients at the time. He punched and kicked his way through the ward as terrified employees battled to stop his rampage.
Security guards soon arrived to control him. He was given sedatives before being taken to the local police station.
A police spokesman said: 'He is aged around 30. He has dark skin. He is now resting after receiving anaesthesia at the hospital.
'Currently, he is still being held at the police station. We will have to wait until he calms down before we can conduct a detailed questioning. We have not been able to do drug or alcohol tests on him yet.'
Authorities said the man's identity was still unclear as he had no IDs on him. They were investigating where he had come from and if he had entered Thailand legally.
In a press conference today, Dr Adisorn Vittangkrun, director of Sirindhorn Hospital, said three people were injured in the violent outburst.
He said: 'Three people suffered minor injuries. Two were hospital staff and the other was the relative of a patient. The hospital will provide full treatment for them. They said they will all be taking legal action against the suspect.
'The man's identity is still unknown because he has no relatives or friends who have come forward. He himself has also refused to give any information.
'Because of his rampage, the hospital staff feel demoralised. We are discussing additional security measures to prevent a repeat of the incident.'
