A mother who was bitten by a pet dog was allegedly assaulted by its owner after she complained at the scene.

The incident occurred while the victim was riding her scooter home after dropping her children off at school in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday, January 21.

She stopped near the Nimtek Computer Centre in Narayanpuri to allow approaching cars to pass when the aggressive pooch bit her on the legs, causing her to fall and sustain injuries.

When she confronted the dog's owner about the violent attack, he reportedly responded with physical violence and verbal abuse.

CCTV footage shows the mum riding her scooter when the canine suddenly attacked her. Bystanders later chased the animal away.

Police confirmed that this was not the first time the dog had harmed someone, with locals reporting that it had previously bitten two or three people.

Authorities said the suspect had already fled. An investigation is underway.
