Close Look At A European Hornet
Occurred on September 9, 2018 / Dohr, Germany
Info from Licensor: "In this short video, I invite you to witness an extraordinary moment: a hornet calmly taking up liquid just inches from my face. This scene reflects the peaceful coexistence that is possible when we respect these misunderstood creatures and their behavior.
As a nature photographer living in the heart of the Eifel, I’ve spent years studying and documenting hornets and wasps. My garden becomes a summer haven for these fascinating insects, offering endless opportunities for close observation and filming. Despite being surrounded by them, even as they crawl near my eyes, ears, and mouth, I’ve never been stung – a testament to the mutual respect between us.
Hornets, often wrongly feared as aggressive, are in fact peaceful when unthreatened. Their rapid flight movements may seem intimidating, but they’re simply part of their nature. By staying calm and composed, we allow them to remain at ease as well.
This video is part of my ongoing effort to change the narrative about these remarkable insects. It’s a glimpse into the beauty and harmony of our natural world – a reminder that fear often stems from misunderstanding.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate the vital role hornets play in our ecosystems and embrace the chance to see them not as threats, but as indispensable members of our shared environment."
