Rare footage shows dozens of octopus eggs hatching
Rare footage shows dozens of octopus eggs hatching on a rock in Dana Point, California.
The filmer said: "There was a terrific minus tide coinciding with the full moon. We had amazing luck when we stumbled upon a sac of octopus eggs hatching!! The octopus eggs belonged to the California two-spot octopus species.
"The eggs take four-five months to hatch, so we were exceedingly fortunate to witness one of nature's most precious moments!! The mother tends to her eggs closely warding off predators and starving herself and then dies as soon as they hatch. It’s a remarkable sacrifice."
