This is the shocking moment a mother and her baby fell into an uncovered manhole in India.

The woman plummeted into the open pit as she was engrossed in her phone, talking with someone while walking on the road in Faridabad, Haryana, on January 22.

CCTV footage shows her carrying her nine-month-old toddler while strolling outside.

Moments later, she tripped on the edge of the hole and eventually fell inside.

Upon seeing this, bystanders sprang into action to rescue the victims.

A man can be seen entering the pit to retrieve the child before helping the mother. After minutes of rescue efforts, he successfully removed the victims, with other concerned locals gathering around the hole to check on them.

Local media reported that they did not sustain any injuries from the incident.
