STORYLINE:
After 15 months of forced displacement, tens of thousands of Palestinians began returning on Monday to their homes in Gaza City and in the northern parts of the coastal enclave.
The return follows an announcement by Qatar on Sunday evening that Hamas and Israel had reached an agreement to release Arbel Yehud and two other Israeli hostages by Friday. Hamas is expected to release three additional hostages on Saturday.
Per the agreement, Israel began on Monday morning to permit displaced residents to return to the northern Gaza Strip.
