Gaza Strip - January 27, 2025 Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are flooding back to their homes in the north of Gaza, after months in temporary shelters. The return followed an announcement by Qatar on Sunday evening that Hamas and Israel had reached an agreement to release Israeli hostage Arbel Yehud and two others by Friday. Hamas is expected to release three additional hostages on Saturday. Under the Israel-Hamas agreement, Israel has allowed the displaced Palestinians to return to the northern Gaza Strip starting Monday morning. This is a remarkable moment for the returning population as their lives have been completely battered and ruined because of the devastating Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip, which Israel has said it was intended against Hamas in Gaza.
