US: Cartel Members Fire on US Border Patrol in Starr County and Flee to Island Refuge
United States - January 27, 2025 On January 27, 2025, DPS responded to assist US Border Patrol after agents came under gunfire from cartel members in Mexico while patrolling near Fronton. Drone footage captured by DPS operators showed the gunmen fleeing into Mexico and seeking refuge on an island between the US and Mexico, evading capture due to military presence. Texas authorities continue to monitor the area closely, using all available resources to counter transnational threats to law enforcement and national security.
