United States - January 26, 2025 A dramatic high-speed chase unfolded on Saturday morning as deputies pursued a suspect in a stolen SUV, reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph. The chase began when a deputy spotted the stolen vehicle running a red light in Tumwater shortly after receiving reports of the stolen SUV in the Grand Mound area. The driver initially complied when asked to stop, but as the deputy approached, the suspect sped off, heading south on I-5. The chase intensified as the suspect reached speeds of over 100 mph before exiting the interstate at Maytown Road. The pursuit continued at speeds in the 80s, with deputies attempting a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle. Although the maneuver initially failed, a second attempt successfully pinned the SUV. In a shocking twist, the driver got out of the SUV and began drinking vodka from a bottle, ignoring deputies’ commands to surrender. Deputies, with K9 in tow, warned the suspect to lie on the ground. The driver then discarded the bottle and complied, leading to the suspect’s arrest. The individual, who had been previously pursued by the Thurston County Sheriff's Office in October 2024, had recently been released from prison. The suspect was booked into jail on multiple charges, including driving under the influence, attempting to elude police, and driving with a suspended license. Additional citations were issued for running a red light, public intoxication, and littering.
