Amazing footage giving an interesting glimpse inside some the ancient Egyptian tombs at the Valley of the Kings in Egypt.

The video, filmed in January this year, shows the ancient complex, near Luxor, which is one of the most popular historical tourist destinations in the world.

According to the filmer, "everyone can visit it, but only a few people get permission to photograph inside the tombs.

"Tourism in Egypt has dropped down on terrorist fears."

The Valley of the Kings near the Egyptian city of Luxor (once known as Thebes) is surely one of the most popular historical attractions for tourists in the whole of North Africa. Everyone can visit it, but only a few people get permission to photograph inside the tombs. Tourism in Egypt has dropped down on terrorist fears. However, this unique video clip shows why it is still worthwhile to visit Egypt.

"I obtained permission to capture images inside the tombs in the Valley of the Kings this past January. I traveled to Luxor in February to partake in this wonderful experience. I had been to Egypt more than ten times and traveled throughout the country, but this opportunity was something truly unique," said the author of this clip, a travel journalist and photographer from the Czech Republic, Jakub Kyncl (age 30).

Taking photography and video clips without permission is forbidden in all of the tombs not only in The Valley of the Kings but in the nearby Valley of the Nobles too. It hadn't always been like this. It used to be possible to take strictly flash-less images because the flash would damage wall paintings. However, tourists were not disciplined, and many of them still used a flash, so cameras became completely forbidden.

This unique clip from the tombs of Ay, Ramesses VI, Thutmose III, Horemheb, and Twosret & Setnakhte is a preview from a longer clip which will be published later this month in the author’s travel news section.

“Having the possibility to take images inside was something incredible. A tricky thing was explaining to tourists that I had permission, and I wasn't breaking any laws. Some Japanese folks were especially heartbroken that they couldn't take any pictures in a place where someone else was allowed to. But everything went well in the end, and I sincerely hope this won't be my last opportunity. I simply love this place," said Kyncl.

The Valley of the Kings contains sixty-three known tombs however only a few of them are open to tourists. Even these open tombs are closed from time to time to limit damage to them. Entrance fees to some tombs are included in the price of admission to the Valley, but for some other tombs - like Tutankhamun's - you have to pay extra.
