A massive fire broke out in piles of recyclable plastic waste, destroying three warehouses in Thailand today.

Footage shows the inferno at the plant in Samut Sakhon shortly after 3pm local time on January 29.

Police officers said they received a report around 10am and dispatched firefighters to the scene, where eight warehouses on 5.9 acres were storing plastic waste.

The fire spread quickly due to plastic cable sleeves, which were highly inflammable, causing the roofs of three warehouses to collapse and sending thick smoke into the sky.

As of 4pm, the fire could still not be brought under control despite attempts to prevent it from spreading.

Samut Sakhon Governor Naris Niramaiwong also arrived at the scene with local authorities and provincial industrial officers.

He ordered them to use backhoes to remove plastic waste outside the warehouses and sought additional sources of water.

Naris added that these warehouses were registered under Mahachok Mahachai Intertrade Co., Ltd., and were rented by Chinese nationals.
