A pod of dolphins stranded in the shallow part of the beach was rescued in the Philippines.

The seven marine mammals were trapped near a mangrove forest while trying to shelter from strong currents when there was a low tide in Negros Oriental on January 25.

Footage shows the dolphins swimming around a fisherman's boat who was one of the first to discover them.

City veterinarians arrived to help with the rescue and found five of them survived, while two females died when they were stuck in the roots of trees.

Dr Melanie Pescadilla said: 'We conducted necropsies and took samples for analysis.'

Three dolphins from the pod had injuries due to stranding, but they were treated and safely released back into the sea.
