Two people have been arrested in connection with the death of a woman who was found at a home in a quaint village.

Police were called by ambulance crews to Devereux Gardens in picturesque Great Haywood, Staffs., just before 5.10pm on Wednesday (29/1).

A woman, who was found inside the property in a critical condition, was taken to hospital but later died.

A 50-year-old man, from Rugeley, Staffs., was arrested on suspicion of murder and controlling/coercive behaviour last night.

Today (Thurs) a 24-year-old man, from Stafford, was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug.

The incident has also been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) following previous police contact.

Forensic officers could be seen this morning searching the home on the newbuild estate, where house prices average more than £300,000.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "Following a call from our colleagues at West Midlands Ambulance Service, at around 5.10pm, yesterday we went to an address on Devereux Gardens."

"A woman, who was inside the property, was taken to hospital. Sadly, she later died."

"The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) following previous police contact."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said crews were called to a medical emergency at a private address in Devereux Gardens at 5pm.

The spokeswoman said: "Three ambulances attended the scene. Upon arrival we found a woman in a critical condition. "

"Ambulance staff administered advanced life support to her which continued en route to hospital where she was conveyed under emergency blue light conditions for further treatment."
