A private jet crashed shortly after take-off killing all of the three people onboard.

The Cessna Citation 550 owned by the Ministry of the Interior, Justice and Peace was carrying three crew members in Venezuela on January 29.

It took off from the Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda Air Base in the capital Caracas before crashing in woodland in El Hatillo in the neighbouring state of Miranda.

The victims were identified as Captain Lieutenant Colonel Henner Perozo, his Co-Pilot First Lieutenant Jose Almazan. and Sergeant Major Eduardo Rodriguez.

Residents in homes near the crash site watched smoke rising into the air.

The Association of Owners and Residents of the La Boyera development said: 'The plane hit the hill above 13th Street of La Boyera.

'There are two victims and the flames generated a fire in the vegetation in the lower part of El Volcan.

'Civil Protection and Police Commissions of the Hatillo coordinated with CICPC to perform the rescue work.'
