An avalanche swept down Ajax Peak in Colorado as a winter storm approached.

Footage shows a mass of ice sliding down the southwest face of the mountain on January 28.

Strong southeasterly winds were reported, moving snow and cross-loading the southwest face of Ajax Peak before the avalanche occurred.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) warned that the relatively calm avalanche conditions were about to change, with up to a foot of new snow expected by Thursday.
