US: Helicopter Rescue Saves Snowshoer After 30-Foot Fall on Castle Peak

United States - January 31, 2025 Castle Peak, California — A dramatic helicopter rescue took place on Castle Peak when a 70-year-old snowshoer fell 30 feet while traversing a ridge, landing headfirst before sliding hundreds of feet on snow and ice. Witnesses provided initial aid as emergency crews from CalStar, Valley Division Air Operations, and Truckee Fire responded to the scene. H-20 inserted two Helicopter Rescue Technicians (HRT), who skied to the man’s location and prepared him for a hoist. The patient was safely lifted and flown to a nearby landing zone, where he was transferred to CalStar for transport to Reno Renown Medical Center.
