During the Spring Festival holiday, twenty-six operators are working round-the-clock to ensure operation safety of one of the world's largest ultra-high voltage (UHV) converter stations in SW China's Sichuan Province.
The Butuo Converter Station, located in Butuo County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, stands at an altitude of over 2,500 meters above sea level.
Spanning 62 hectares with a transmission capacity of 16,000 MW, it serves as a critical point in China's west-to-east power transmission project.
SOUNDBITE (Chinese): HU DEWEN, Deputy supervisor, Butuo converter station
"Our daily inspections require nearly 20,000 steps to cover all equipment, checking for abnormalities or overheating. As it's been pretty cold lately, inspection frequency has been intensified to rigorously guard against damage from cold waves, rain, and snow. This station can't be left unmanned. There are 26 workers on duty during the Spring Festival to safeguard this important point in China's west-to-east power transmission project."
Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Chengdu, China.
