STORYLINE:

Over 1,000 workers have been dedicated to the smooth operations of a Hualong One nuclear power unit in east China's Fujian Province, during the Chinese New Year holiday.

It is the first unit of the Zhangzhou nuclear power project which began commercial operations on Jan. 1 this year.

"The control room operators monitor key parameters like reactor power, coolant temperature, and pressure. If something unusual occurs, we must act swiftly. Every operation follows strict procedures and there's no room for mistakes."

The Hualong One reactor meets the highest global safety standards and represents a major milestone in the country's innovative nuclear power development.

"We plan to conduct hot function tests for the second unit after the holiday. Our on-duty staff has already prepared all the necessary documents to ensure the tests go smoothly and successfully."

The Zhangzhou nuclear power project is designed to have six Hualong One nuclear power units.
   
A Hualong One nuclear power unit generates more than 10 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.
