United States - February 02, 2025 Data recorded by the two black boxes aboard the American Airlines passenger plane that collided with a U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopter has been downloaded, as more victims of the air disaster have been identified. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) held a press conference on Saturday to update the investigation into the midair plane crash that killed 67 people in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday night. The flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder were recovered from the passenger jet by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) late on Thursday afternoon and provided to engineers. The devices are being analyzed by a working group, according to the NTSB. Both the flight data recorder, which contains about two hours and four minutes of high-quality audio, and the cockpit voice recorder, which captures the entire course of the flight, have been successfully downloaded, officials confirmed. The NTSB said that five air traffic controllers were in the Reagan National Airport traffic control cab at the time of the collision. Investigators are expected to interview the operational supervisor and the operational supervisor in training by the end of Monday. The D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department confirmed Saturday that 42 sets of remains have been recovered from the Potomac River, 38 of which have been identified.
