Bungling British tourists were rescued when the boat they had taken out on a sea fishing trip broke down off the Thai coast.

The four hapless holidaymakers had borrowed the rubber dinghy from a friend on February 1 to make a vlog of themselves angling near Promthep Cape on the island of Phuket.

After leaving the coast and travelling around two miles, the boat's engine shut down. Although they managed to fix it initially, it stalled again shortly after, and they were unable to repair it.

The tourists contacted their friends for assistance and sent their location before their phone battery ran out.

Responding to the call, four emergency workers launched a patrol boat, using the provided location and predicting the group's drift based on water and wind currents.

The team eventually located the four dehydrated British men on the boat, which had dropped its anchor to stay in place.

One of the men had entered the water to retrieve the anchor but sustained a minor injury from the rocks.

He was treated with first aid before all four tourists, along with the boat, were safely transported to Chalong Pier as the wind had calmed, allowing for a smooth rescue.

Rescue worker Somsak said: 'The only obstacle was the language barrier, as the tourists were not under the influence of alcohol.

'They had gone out to film fishing content, much like YouTubers, as I saw two cameramen filming when we reached them.

'However, I couldn't recall their names or ask for their details. They were all relieved when we found them and they were very thankful.'

Captain Calamity was a fictional character in the 1936 movie starring George Houston. It follows a sailor who pretends to have a treasure map, leading to trouble with pirates and fortune seekers in the South Seas.
