On a picturesque June 18th, 2023, the author and their group found themselves in close proximity to a bear that unexpectedly charged towards them. Instead of succumbing to their instinct to flee, the guide held their ground and mirrored the bear's charge. Astonishingly, the bear changed course and retreated, revealing the bluff nature of the encounter. With nine years of experience, the author emphasized the significance of avoiding close encounters with bears and always having an experienced guide present. For decades, these majestic creatures have coexisted peacefully with humans, thanks to responsible tourism practices that prioritize the safety and preservation of the bears and their habitat.
