Pupil makes high jump but passes out from hard landing
A pupil made a high jump to win a gold medal on the school sports day - but passed out from the hard landing.
Footage shows Boyd, 16, launching himself backwards over the bar and flopping on his upper back into the sand pit in Maguindanao, the Philippines, on January 21.
The youngster also hit the lower back of his head and the back of his neck.
Boyd was cheered upon by teachers and classmates, but he appeared disoriented after the landing, which would normally be cushioned by a mat in more developed countries.
The teenager held his forehead while walking around until he collapsed seconds later.
Teachers rushed to help and shouted for medics to assist them.
One of the instructors during the school sports event, Dexter Saliling, said: 'I admire the courage of Boyd. He did it all for the medal. He will become better with practice.'
Boyd was given first aid treatment by medics on the scene and did not have any serious injuries.
