Santa Barbara, United States - February 02, 2025 A vehicle careened approximately 100 feet off Gibraltar Road near Flores Flats on Sunday, landing upside down in a creek and triggering a high-stakes rescue operation. Emergency crews from Santa Barbara County Fire (SBC), Search and Rescue (SAR), and the Air Support Unit swiftly responded. Firefighters used rope systems to descend the steep hillside, while a paramedic was hoisted from Helicopter 4 to access the wreckage. One adult male managed to self-extricate and was hoisted to safety, then transported by ambulance to Cottage Hospital. A second adult male, trapped inside the overturned vehicle, was carefully extricated and airlifted with firefighter-paramedics on board. He sustained moderate injuries. Northbound Gibraltar Road was closed as rescue efforts unfolded. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
