Spain - February 03, 2025 Authorities have uncovered a criminal network trafficking illegal medical substances used in aesthetic treatments, prompting the investigation of 24 clinics across multiple regions. The Guardia Civil, in collaboration with the Tax Agency, has dismantled a criminal organization importing, storing, and distributing unregulated medical products, including botulinum toxin, hyaluronidase, and other substances primarily from South Korea. The substances, which had bypassed health and safety checks, were sold to both licensed and clandestine clinics, with some treatments performed by unqualified individuals. Four people were arrested and 41 others are under investigation for crimes against public health, fraud, professional intrusion, and criminal organization. The investigation spans across Alicante, Málaga, Madrid, Cádiz, Murcia, Córdoba, and Sevilla. More than 700 vials of botulinum toxin, 275 vials of hyaluronidase, and other illicit items were seized, highlighting the growing risks of unsafe aesthetic procedures. Authorities are warning potential victims of harmful side effects after illegal treatments were administered by unlicensed personnel.
