A kind shopkeeper used a chair tied to a stick to fish out a crying kitten from a canal.

The good Samaritan heard the calico moggy's call for help, and he went to the back of the shop for a DIY operation in Pahang, Malaysia, on January 22.

Footage shows the elderly shopkeeper lowering the plastic seat he tied to a pole which he then used to reach the feline.

He calmed the tri-coloured kitten, urging it to step into the chair which he then pulled up.

The kind worker laughed and smiled at the kitten when it was finally safe.

Onlooker Imran, who passed by the rescue operation, said: 'I came to his stall to do business when I heard the sound of a cat. It was in the canal.'
