Candanchú, Spain - February 04, 2025 The Guardia Civil carried out a complex rescue operation early this morning to save a skier stranded in the treacherous Loma Verde area near the Candanchú ski resort. The skier had veered off marked trails and became trapped on a steep, rocky slope. Harsh weather conditions, including strong winds and snow, added to the danger for both the skier and rescuers. The GREIM (Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group) and UHEL (Helicopter Unit) were quickly deployed, with the operation coordinated from the Guardia Civil’s command center. Helicopter support proved crucial, allowing access to otherwise unreachable areas and providing vital logistical and evacuation assistance. After several hours of intense effort, the rescue team reached the skier, secured his position, and airlifted him to safety. He was later transported to a medical center for evaluation, where he was found to have only minor bruises and was in good overall condition.
