San Bernardino, United States - February 03, 2025 A dramatic rescue unfolded today as San Bernardino County firefighters saved a child trapped inside a burning home on the 1300 block of N. Valencia Avenue. Fire crews arrived within six minutes of the 11:15 a.m. call to find the single-story residence engulfed in smoke and flames. Upon learning that a young girl with access and functional needs was trapped inside, firefighters immediately shifted focus from battling the blaze to executing a search and rescue. A team located the child in a bedroom, quickly passing her through a window to firefighters outside. She was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition. A family dog was also rescued from the home. The response involved 30 personnel, including seven engines, a truck company, a medic squad, and three chief officers. Recent staffing increases, including four-person truck crews and an added medic squad, were pivotal in the swift rescue and emergency care. Fire officials credited a closed bedroom door with preventing more severe injuries, providing crucial time for the successful rescue.
