Police arrest 56 men at 'gay sex party' in hardline Indonesia
Dozens of men were arrested for allegedly having a gay sex party in hardline Muslim Indonesia.
The ripped revellers stripped to the underpants to join the event at the HABITARE Rasuna Jakarta hotel in the capital city on February 1.
They were said to have worn stickers with the preferences and given instructions to be polite. But police piled into the room for any intimacy could unfold.
Officers detained 56 people and seized condoms, HIV medicine, and sachets of lube. Footage shows the guests covering their faces as they were escorted by police out of the building.
Police spokesman Ade Ary Syam Indradi said in a press conference on Monday: 'When they were secured, 56 people were found, all men. There was evidence of hotel reservations, condom contraceptives, then there were anti-HIV drugs and also bath soap.
'When the event started, one of the suspects with the initials BP alias D appealed to the participants to have fun and enjoy the event, and if there were partners who were not suitable, the participants were asked not to refuse rudely.
'For participants who play male roles, they do not use stickers and if they play 'female', they use sticker labels on their shoulders.'
Three suspects with the initials BP, RH, and RE face criminal charges under Article 7 of the Law No. 44 of 2008 on Pornography, for allegedly arranging the orgy and 'facilitating pornography services'. The violation carries a penalty of up to 15 years in jail and a maximum fine of 7.5 billion IDR (around 370,000 GBP).
The police spokesman added: 'The organisers or initiators of this event said they did not receive any financial benefit, because those who came were not charged. But once again, police are still investigating the case.'
The raid comes after police shut down a gay bar in the same city on New Year's Eve.
Officers swept into the Bunker Bar after residents complained about the LGBT parties being held in the nightclub.
Homosexuality is not illegal but is taboo in predominantly Muslim Indonesia. Other Islamic countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates enforce Sharia Law more strictly and can punish homosexuality with death.
Indonesia's stringent Pornography Law, also known as Act Number 44 of 2008 on Pornography, punishes what the government calls 'pornoaction' or 'pornoaksi' - a sweeping term for actions that may be considered indecent or sexually provocative.
Critics have slammed the vague definition, claiming the law may infringe on personal freedoms.
Indonesia is a hardline Muslim majority country. In at least one of the country's states, flogging is a punishment for offenses of drinking alcohol, gambling, same-sex sexual relations, and adultery
