Phoenix, United States - February 04, 2025 02/04/2025 06:00 pm (GMT-0700) GLENDALE, Ariz. – Several hundred people gathered near the Westgate Entertainment District near the intersection of 91st Avenue and Glendale Avenue around 6 p.m. Tuesday. The crowd gathered to protest immigration enforcement and the Trump administration. Glendale Police and city officials coordinated with Westgate Entertainment District and Tanger Outlets to preemptively close all businesses in the area in preparation for the protest. Crowds marched north on 91st and eventually looped back to the Westgate area on Zanjero Boulevard. The crowd then marched south on Zanjero through the Glendale Avenue intersection and attempted to enter the Westgate Entertainment District property. Several Glendale police officers intervened and issued commands to the group via loudspeaker. Officers informed the protesters that the Westgate Entertainment District was closed and anyone who enters the property is trespassing. Protesters then made their way northbound on Zanjero and began marching west on Glendale Avenue towards the Loop 101 Freeway. As the group approached the freeway intersection, they were met by several law enforcement agencies. Officers from the city of Glendale, troopers from the Department of Public Safety, and deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office quickly established a scrimmage line. Additional law enforcement personnel in riot gear formed a line in the Tanger Outlets parking lot along the south side of Glendale Avenue. Law enforcement donned riot gear and declared an unlawful assembly, ordering all persons who assembled to disperse immediately. A large portion of the crowd obeyed the commands and returned to the sidewalk while several people remained in the roadway. One protester was seen utilizing a roadway construction sign as a makeshift shield. After several commands to disperse were ignored, law enforcement deployed pepper balls toward the protesters in the roadway. Law enforcement then began advancing toward the remaining protesters, pushing the crowd eastbound toward Zanjero Boulevard. The remaining protesters separated and fled the area. At least one person was detained by Glendale police during the early stages of the protest after revving their engine near the protest crowd.
