A troop of wild monkeys invaded an apartment in search of food in Thailand.

The pillaging macaques had wandered from the nearby wilderness into the building in Songkhla province.

Footage shows the wild animals perched on top of a shed as they took a swig from a beverage pilfered from the premises. The rest of the troop were seen loitering in the carpark taking shelter from the heat.

A tenant named Sroymala also found the macaques walking along a ledge while entering her apartment room.

She said: 'The monkeys were everywhere. The ones that came by were relatively calm, but there are some that can become aggressive when they're hungry.'

Thailand's growing population of primates has become a problem as the animals are known to damage property, such as cars and buildings. Unafraid of the consequences, they have also started stealing food from tourists and locals.

Meanwhile, the Thai government is taking steps to manage the monkey population in the country, including creating sanctuaries, mass sterilisation programs, educating the public on how to handle the animals properly, and relocating them to more suitable habitats.
