US: Chaos in Courtroom as Murder Suspect Attacked by Victim’s Family
Albuquerque, United States - January 31, 2025 A courtroom descended into chaos on Friday morning when Alexander Ortiz, 21, a murder suspect accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend Alianna Farfan, was violently attacked during a plea hearing at the Bernalillo County Courthouse. Shocking courtroom video captures the moment Farfan’s uncle, Carlos Lucero, and her stepfather, Pete Ysasi, leapt over the barrier separating the public from defendants. The footage shows Lucero sprinting straight at Ortiz, who attempted to flee before being cornered. Seconds later, Ysasi joined the assault, igniting a brawl involving Ortiz, his father, a corrections officer, and another unidentified man. The melee spilled onto the courtroom floor as fists flew, with Lucero and Ysasi seen repeatedly punching Ortiz. The corrections officer struggled to shield the suspect amid the frenzy, sustaining injuries in the process. The violent confrontation only ceased when the officer deployed a Taser, dispersing the attackers. Court documents allege Lucero and Ysasi assaulted both Ortiz and the officer. Following his arrest, Lucero reportedly showed no remorse, telling deputies, "He killed my niece like a coward. It was worth every moment." Ortiz, who was arrested last February, faces a first-degree murder charge and had previously pleaded not guilty. The attack occurred during a scheduled plea hearing related to Farfan’s death. Deputies responded to the courtroom around 9:30 a.m. after receiving reports of an active fight.
