STORYLINE:
Jordanian King Abdullah II on Wednesday voiced rejection of any attempts to annex land or displace Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, stressing the importance of ensuring Palestinians remain on their land.
The king made the remarks at a meeting in Amman with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas during which he reaffirmed the necessity of achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, which would lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders, according to a statement by Jordan's Royal Hashemite Court.
The king reiterated Jordan's unwavering support for the Palestinian people in securing their legitimate rights.
He also highlighted Jordan's close coordination with regional and international partners in addressing regional issues and working toward comprehensive de-escalation.
Reaffirming the importance of sustaining the ceasefire in Gaza, the king called for intensified international efforts to increase humanitarian aid and ensure its delivery across all areas of the Strip.
The king also urged the international community to play a more effective role in halting the escalation in the West Bank and stopping attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
Abbas expressed appreciation for Jordan's steadfast stance in supporting the Palestinian cause and the resilience of the Palestinian people in their pursuit of their legitimate rights.
