This is the shocking moment an American motorbike rider was killed in a horror crash in Thailand.

Leo Williams, 52, was on a high-speed joyride through 'Sin City' Pattaya when he lost control of his motorbike in the early hours of Thursday morning.

He was turning a curve but shot right into the tree-lined median strip in the Soi Thap Phraya 9 area.

Footage shows the motorbike ripping through two palm trees as it blazed across the road.

Leo, from Florida, was instantly killed by the impact and flew from his seat onto the median lane.

His black Kawasaki Z1000 big bike continued rolling forward before toppling over in the middle of an intersection.

Police said they received a report at 4:36 am. They arrived at the gruesome scene, where they found the dead tourist with his chest torn open.

Police Lieutenant Chanan Kesobua of the Pattaya City Police Station said: 'An American national was found lying dead in a pool of blood on the median strip. His chest had a large open wound. His organs were spilled out and scattered all over the area.'

Rescue workers collected the pieces of his liver and lungs strewn around the area.

Another tourist who witnessed the accident unfold said Leo had been speeding when he crashed.

Police Major Chanan Kesornbua of the Pattaya City Police Station said: 'We have taken photos of the scene as evidence. We also checked security cameras and retrieved footage showing that the rider had indeed been driving at high speed before crashing.

‘His body was taken to the Pattaya Bhattamakun Hospital, where it will remain until his relatives provide the necessary documents to collect it for the religious ceremony.'

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
