This is the adorable moment identical twins took their first steps - at the same time.

Charlie and Jackson Murphy, 16 months old, hit the major milestone at the exact same time leaving their mom Alexa Carlin, 33, in shock.

Alexa had been encouraging her twins to walk for weeks when suddenly Charlie stood up and took a few steps on his own.

Seconds later, Jackson, who had never even stood up unassisted before, followed his brother's lead and started walking too.

Alexa, a public speaker, author and CEO of A. Rose Media from Raleigh, North Carolina, said: "I was so happy but also completely shocked. "

"Other twin parents told me their kids hit milestones weeks or even months apart so I never imagined they would start walking at the exact same moment!"

The boys share a close bond and often copy each other, they love playing together, stealing each other's toys and even holding hands in their cribs.

But despite their similarities, they have distinct personalities - Charlie is outgoing and goofy, while Jackson is more independent and observant.

Alexa said: "We've always noticed they mimic each other but this was a complete surprise."

"It was such a special moment, and I'm so grateful I caught it on camera."

Charlie had been slowly building up the confidence to walk, taking a step or two before falling.

Jackson, on the other hand, always preferred crawling and had never attempted to walk until he saw his brother doing it.

Alexa said: "I think he saw Charlie walking and heard how excited I was and he just decided ‘Okay, we're doing this now'!"

"It was like he learned to walk in one second."
