Watch how Bomb Squad robots neutralise explosives in the UK
Incredible footage shows how bomb squad robots neutralise explosives in the United Kingdom.
The video reveals a live trial demonstrating the potential of robots, including robot dogs and drones, in bomb disposal operations. The robots help reduce risks to military personnel by handling dangerous tasks remotely.
The trial, led by Ministry of Defence scientists, was conducted over four days by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl). It featured advanced robotic systems that successfully detected and neutralised bomb threats.
During the experiment, robots used sensors to classify and identify threats remotely.
Robot dogs performed bomb disposal tasks, while drones, equipped with artificial intelligence, autonomously detected threats and people.
The robots also demonstrated abilities like opening doors and climbing stairs.
This trial is part of the UK Government's Plan for Change, which aims to integrate advanced technology into national security efforts. It also accelerates the development of innovative defense technologies.
The project involved collaboration between Dstl and several British and international companies, including L3Harris, Marlborough Communications Ltd, and AeroVironment.
Robots are being developed in several countries, with China and the United States leading the 'tech arms race.'
A military-style robot dog was even seen protecting President-Elect Donald Trump in Florida earlier this month. Meanwhile, in Texas, Elon Musk's Tesla hopes to have its version of a humanoid robot, called Optimus, available for sale in 2026.
Musk - who played a prominent role in the recent US election victory of Donald Trump - recently presented Optimus, describing it as a multi-functional assistant capable of handling household chores, playing with children, and assisting with various repetitive tasks.
