American tourist helps and adopts stray dog hiding from fireworks in convenience store
A kind American tourist helped to save a frightened stray dog that hid in a convenience store before volunteering to adopt the homeless animal.
Joe Schuller, 39, found the Thai Bangkaew pooch cowering between a shelf of toilet cleaners and an ATM while he was trying to buy snacks in Chonburi, Thailand, on January 28.
The Good Samaritan found out the scared canine dashed into the shop to flee from firecracker sounds and offered to help the staff member calm it down.
Footage shows Joe holding a hotdog sandwich which he used to befriend the dog. He opened the packet and offered a bite of the bread to the animal.
It took a bite and ate it, before calling it to come out of the establishment with him.
Store assistant manager Jetsada Malirat, 33, said: 'We had been trying to make the dog come out for 30 minutes until the foreigner arrived. He helped to calm the dog down so that it came out safely.'
Joe bought a bottle of soda and more bread and was about to leave, but the dog was waiting for him by the entrance.
When he was riding his motorbike, the dog ran over and hopped with him in the two-wheeler.
The American adopted the dog and now lives with him in a house near the convenience store.
Joe said: 'We formed a bond. The dog immediately trusted me and was waiting for me outside the shop. I decided to take him home and look after him.'
