A video published by X user R. Augustine Sánchez on February 5 showed demonstrators marching onto the freeway as riot police mobilized. The protest was one of several recent demonstrations against threatened mass deportations, drawing hundreds before police intervened with chemical agents to disperse the crowd. According to Glendale Police Department spokesperson Officer Moroni Mendez, the protest near 67th Avenue and Camelback Road swelled to over 1,000 people by late afternoon. While most remained peaceful, a "small" group set off fireworks and engaged in "reckless activity," according to the Phoenix Police Department. Several officers were assaulted, and five police vehicles were damaged. In a brief escalation, a protester stole a police car before officers regained control of the vehicle. Protesters hurled chunks of concrete and glass bottles at police, though no officers required hospitalization.
