Gaza Strip residents overwhelmingly reject U.S. takeover initiative
- February 06, 2025 Storyline: The proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump to relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip was widely rejected by the strip's residents, who, despite suffering greatly from the conflict's devastation and loss of life, remained resolute in their determination to remain on their ancestral land. In a joint press conference with visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, Trump announced a shocking plan in which the U.S. will take ownership of the Gaza Strip and redevelop it after Palestinians are relocated elsewhere. Palestinians confirmed that over the years, they have thwarted similar plans to displace them from their lands, and indicated that they are clinging to their land, which was devastated by the Israeli attacks that lasted about fifteen months, and will never leave it. The Palestinians believe that Trump's attempt will fail like previous attempts. Despite expectations that the displacement plan will fail, experts warn that it cannot be underestimated. They stressed that a national strategy should be formulated, with efforts made to mobilize and strengthen international sympathy and backing for the Palestinian people. Local resident condemned the American plan as a blatant excuse to expel them in preparation for American control. Shotlist: Gaza Strip - Feb 6, 2025: 1. Why, because since the occupation of Palestine in 1948, this project has been proposed by occupiers and nations that support occupation regarding the issue of displacing the population of the Gaza Strip, but failed, due to the steadfastness of our people in the face of this decision. Of course, the occupation will also fail in this war of extermination that began on October 7 (in 2023)." [SHOT OVERLAYING SOUNDBITE] 3. Local residents; [SHOT OVERLAYING SOUNDBITE] 4. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Tamer Labad, writer, political analyst: "Such a decision cannot be underestimated, especially when the occupiers are continuing with their plans. There must be a comprehensive national plan to stand up to these plans. And we need to stay united. The question of Palestine gained certain international reputation and support during this war. It has been widely recognized and understood in European and East Asian countries, and has aroused the attention of the whole world. International solidarity and attention will be an important support for us against the U.S. attempts to control the region." 6. Various of local residents; 7. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) local resident (name not given): "This is an excuse to empty the land of its original owners, and the settlers come and occupy the entire Gaza Strip." 8. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) local resident (name not given) (ending with shot 9): "We're not leaving our nation until we're dead. No matter old or young, we will never leave, whether Trump or someone else wants us out. This is our country, not the country of Israel nor of America. This is Palestine, the country of the Palestinian people." 9. Local residents. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
