07/02/2025 - Rome, Italy. Two protesters dressed as ghosts behind the banner with the slogan ‘we are residents not ghosts’ displayed during the speeches of citizens’ committees during the protest against the unlivability of some areas of the historic center, due to mass tourism, organized by the ‘Network of associations for a liveable city’. Several dozen residents of the historic center of Rome demonstrated to draw public attention to the unlivability of many of the city's streets and squares due to the bad nightlife, with music in clubs that continues well beyond the permitted hours and with noise in the streets until late at night, and the strong reduction in parking for those who live in the internal areas of the city included in the ZTL (limited traffic zone). According to the protesters, another problem is that of the ‘wild table’: with the increase in pedestrian areas also on the occasion of the Jubilee, ‘the spaces are exploited by the premises to increase the outdoor tables’. The residents also report the extreme tourist exploitation of the homes with the significant increase in B&Bs in view of the Jubilee.
