Dramatic 6 homes lost in 2nd Alarm rowhome blaze, Shamokin, Pennsylvania
2/6/2025 A significant fire has struck the 5th ward in Shamokin once again. Firefighters received an alert at approximately 1945hrs for a potential fire at 212 South Shamokin Street. The police department promptly arrived on the scene, confirming a working fire that was spreading rapidly and threatening adjacent structures. A second alarm was swiftly sounded as the fire spread to four houses. Crews eventually managed to halt the spread of the blaze and bring it under control. The fire remains under investigation, with no cause disclosed at this time.

Fire hits row homes on South Shamokin Street
SHAMOKIN — Fire ravaged several row homes in the 200 block of South Shamokin Street Thursday night, a short distance away from last week’s fire in the 200 block of South Franklin Street.
The call came in at about 7:45 p.m. Thursday and quickly escalated to a two-alarm fire. Heavy fire and smoke were visible from the rear of 212-214 S. Shamokin St. as firefighters arrived.
Patrolman Benjamin Busko said all residents had been accounted for.
Flames leaped dozens of feet into the air as firefighters reached the back of 212-214 S. Shamokin St., which is bordered on one side by Shamokin Creek.
Within a few minutes, fire began to spread into the roof of 208-210 and 216-218 S. Shamokin St., the latter which was connected to 212-214 S. Shamokin. Firefighters made entry in an attempt to stop the flames from spreading.
A firefighter used a deck gun on Friendship Fire Company’s Engine 11 in an attempt to suppress the flames at 212-214 S. Shamokin St. Despite the effort, the roofs collapsed.
Firefighters also used several hose lines at the front and rear of the affected homes. The blaze was marked under control at 9:15 p.m.; however, crews remained on scene to look for hot spots.
There was no word on the cause or source of the fire.

SHAMOKIN — Emergency responders worked late into the night at the scene of a fire in the 200 block of South Shamokin Street in Shamokin on Thursday.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at around 7:50 p.m. for a report of heavy smoke coming from connected rowhomes on Shamokin Street, according to emergency responders. Five homes were damaged in the fire.
Flames became visible as firefighters arrived. Traffic was detoured as firefighters battled the blaze.
Fire departments from across the Valley responded to the incident.
The fire affected four rowhomes, according to public 911 radio communications. According to the reports, a second alarm was called nearly as soon as emergency responders first arrived on scene.
