A hero passerby joined a high-speed police chase to catch a carjacker in Colorado.

Johan Sebastian Eslava Osorio saw serial car thief James McDonald, 41, trying to flee after crashing a stolen truck in Arapahoe County.

The Good Samaritan joined the chase, sprinted towards James from the pavement, and followed him to a building car park so he could not escape.

Helicopter footage shows Johan grappling with the felon before police arrived to take over and arrest the carjacker.

Officers said that before the thief was arrested, he went on a weeks-long rampage, stealing multiple vehicles, including two Ford F-150 trucks and an RV with firearms inside.

Before being caught, he was being pursued by cops after stealing a black truck in Denver, which he crashed.

The carjacker is now serving a 40-year sentence for aggravated motor vehicle theft.
