STORYLINE:
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has ramped up diplomatic efforts with Arab counterparts to reject any measures aimed at the displacement of Palestinians, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday.
Abdelatty held phone discussions with foreign ministers from 11 Arab countries, including Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Iraq, following directives from Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, according to the statement.
The move was part of ongoing coordination among Arab nations in response to developments in the Palestinian cause and the dire conditions in the Gaza Strip and West Bank, it read.
These intensified efforts followed a controversial proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting the U.S. take control of the Gaza Strip and relocate its residents to Egypt and Jordan.
Arab ministers rejected the proposal, calling it a violation of international law and an infringement on Palestinian rights that threatened regional security and stability.
They reiterated the need for a permanent and just solution to the Palestinian issue, emphasizing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The ministers also agreed to continue their coordination and increase communications with other Arab partners in the coming period, according to the statement.
